Our team is composed of bi-cultural leaders in a variety of fields including medicine, law, and the arts.

Ayesha Sherzai

President

Dr. Ayesha Sherzai is a neurologist, scientist and published author. She completed a dual training in Preventative Medicine & Neurology at Loma Linda University, a fellowship in Vascular Neurology & Epidemiology at Columbia University, and a masters in clinical research from UC San Diego. She volunteered with Doctors Without
Borders in Afghanistan, co-founded the Afghan Health Initiative and co-leads the largest community-based brain health initiative in the world through the Brain Health Revolution.

Jahan Shahryar

Chief Executive Officer

Jahan Shahryar is an attorney and food entrepreneur with years of experience practicing corporate law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and volunteering for the International Refugee Assistance Project. In addition to providing academic and career counseling to women resettling in the United States, Jahan has worked closely with girls’ schools in Afghanistan, including Code to Inspire and School of Leadership Afghanistan. Jahan received her J.D. from U.C. Berkeley School of Law with a Certificate in Transnational Law from the Center of Transnational Legal Studies at Georgetown University.

Dean Sherzai

Chief Development Officer

Dr. Dean Sherzai is a neurologist, scientist, author, and former Afghan Deputy Minister of Health who engaged over 20,000 Afghan women in the healthcare system of Afghanistan. Dr. Sherzai completed two fellowships at National Institutes of Health and U.C. San Diego and holds two masters degrees in clinical research & epidemiology, an executive leadership degree from Harvard Business School, and a PhD in Healthcare Leadership. He co-founded the Afghan Health Initiative and co-leads the Brain Health Revolution.

Ajmal Subat

Chief Programs Officer

Ajmal (AJ) Subat is an artist, film/tv music composer, and activist who works to promote arts and creative thinking in low-resource communities. Amidst the Afghanistan crisis, Ajmal coordinated the evacuation of many of the country’s most visible female leaders, including writers, journalists, musicians and painters. He has since successfully advocated for their training and advancement in the music, film, and entertainment industries in the United States. AJ holds his B.A. in History from U.C.L.A.
